Just because we here in the southern hemisphere don’t have a white Christmas doesn’t mean we don’t dream of it. Luckily, for those like me who can’t afford to travel off to a place covered in snow at this time, Melbourne turns into a Christmas wonderland each year with all the lights and décor around the Town Hall, Federation Square, Adventure Park, and even in the suburbs evoking the festive spirit.

Visiting these spots, besides keeping with our family tradition of going out to look for the perfect tree and then decorating it with our favourite ornaments, used to be our way of starting the festive season. These last three years, however, we turned to the use of a fake tree because of living with our furry friend Toby and the danger of him swallowing some pine needles.

As this part of the festive mood was lacking, I needed to find a way to feel more of the joy of this amazing season. Enter jumpers! Even amid spring and summer, we can bring about the feeling of winter and the cosiness and comfort it brings about thanks to the use of these wardrobe staples. More so because this year we’ve had the coldest spring in decades which further helped me with my jumper-based outfits.

If you aren’t too keen on wearing your ugly sweater, even if you think it looks amazing on heartthrobs like Colin Firth, there are plenty of stores that have stylish womens jumpers for sale. They range in patterns, prints, and colours as much as in fabrics so you get to choose your degree of vogue, warmth, and comfort. A 100% Australian cotton with a flattering fit and crew neck is something I swear by this season.

There are times when the weather acts up and surprises you in the middle of spring as you’re out doing some shopping or you’re getting out of the theatre, and you instantly regret not bringing a warm layer. A loved one’s hug can only keep you warm for a short while… and it won’t be your last and only resource of warmth when you’re equipped with a fancy ladies’ jumper in your bag. They’re the perfect layering pieces over all sorts of tees, as well as dresses. This is also an easy way to slip into a slip dress in autumn, so jot this down for the next cold season!

Add a Dose of Sophistication

You don’t have to be too much into fashion or trends to notice French ladies have that relaxed “Je ne sais quois” dressing attitude we all like to copy time and time again. One way of achieving that seamless class is by simply wearing a jumper over your shoulders. No need for anything else – no adornments, no accessories. Even the minimalist women’s jumpers for sale will do the trick! Unless you’re French and you have it in you, I would advise you to practise the tying up and the walking. I say this from experience!

How Do You Wear a Jumper with Style?

Simple, just see what the French girls are doing with their jumpers! They’re my ultimate fashion inspiration, and I have a feeling they’ll become yours too. They layer various women’s jumpers for sale over all sorts of bottoms, from skinny and straight-leg jeans, pants either tailored or loose-cut, or chinos, to skirts of all shapes and sizes. This means you have the green light on whatever you feel most comfortable in.

Tie them around your waist, wear them as a scarf or over one shoulder side, put them across the body, over both shoulders or tied around the neck for that timeless look… you have endless options. Perched over a dress button-down shirt, oversized tee, or even a leotard a la Carrie Bradshaw, means you have tonnes of possibilities and you can count on a statement outfit with minimal effort.

The trendy women’s jumpers are awesome when worn over a top layer and also, in the likes of leather jackets and overcoats. I’ve seen some fashion bloggers use them instead of dresses and skirts too, but these are two looks I haven’t yet tried out myself so I can’t guarantee whether they work or look great. In terms of colours, choose contrasts to make the effect more striking.

For example, I wear a black one over a white button-down shirt and a white one over a black t-shirt. Lastly, pay attention to the neck; crew neck jumpers work neatly with sports jackets, whereas V-necks are nicely partnered with patterned shirts underneath.
