Essential Oils: Get Clarity of Mind to Reap the Benefits of Meditation

If there is one thing we all have in common, it is the desire to be happy and satisfied in life. But, are we looking for happiness in the right place? According to Trynlay Rinpoche, an accomplished meditator, the real source of happiness lies in the clarity of thoughts. He explains that external factors can only be pleasurable if we are happy on the inside. Meditation helps us create a secure connection between our internal and external world.

Studies have shown that when we meditate, brain signalling increases in the left side of the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for positive emotions, while activity decreases in the right side, responsible for negative emotions. But putting us on the right track to being happy isn’t the only benefit we get from meditation. Engaging in daily meditation practice, whether it is for quick five minutes in the morning or a lengthier hour in the evening, does incredible things for our mind, such as relieving built-up anxiety, improving focus, quieting mental chatter, boosting self-esteem and feelings of confidence.

Another great thing about meditation is that it is simpler than most people think. All you need to practice it is:

  • A calm and quiet place to sit;
  • Sit a position that you feel comfortable and can stay in for a while;
  • Following the sensation of your breath as it goes in and out;
  • Noticing when your mind has wandered;
  • Closing with kindness.

While for some people meditation can be a simple thing, for others, it can be a bit difficult. Of course, there are a few tools that help make it a little easier, like essential oil for meditation, which can help set the mood and calm your mind so you’re able to get your zen on. The purpose of using an essential oil meditation is to find scents that address the things that make the practice more difficult, such as lingering stress, a racing mind and overall restlessness. Ways to Use These Oils

The easiest way to add essential oils in your meditation is by using a diffuser. But you can also add a few drops of your chosen oil to a bowl of hot water and lean over it while deeply breathing the scent. Many essential oils are safe and beneficial when used directly on the skin. I, personally, like rubbing a few drops of frankincense on my neck and jaw, or lavender on my third eye before starting meditation. A couple of drops of eucalyptus rubbed between your hands and then on the back of your neck is a great way to focus and start your meditation practice.
