The Breakfast In a Glass You Won’t Want To Skip

Being a mom of a 7-month-old baby boy, having a sit-down breakfast (the one that’s good for you) is mission impossible (unless you are Tom Cruise). For real. But given the fact that I am breastfeeding, getting my morning energy boost is very important to me.

So, for a month or so, I would get up super early, even before the sun (hats off to all fitness enthusiasts, you are amazing) to have my power breakfast. I felt even more tired. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting you skip breakfast, but skipping it for extra 2 hours of sleep, oh yeah. My breakfast was loaded with vitamins, protein and all that good stuff that is suppose to keep you up and going, but for me it simply did not work out; by the time my son was ready for his first day nap, I was exhausted. Literally.

I needed a quick fix, something that will give me the energy to be present in life, and soon there it was, in a commercial break right before I was getting ready to snuggle up with my hubby with one of our favourite movies Marley & Me (you gotta see it if you haven’t already). Before this post becomes a movie review let me go back to my revelation, Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer or the the way I like to call it, my I-can-play-with-my-son-all-day breakfast in a glass. Trust me, it is instant gourmet that’s healthy for both body and brain.

I know what you all may say – I would never buy a product I just saw being advertised on TV. Neither did I. Trust me, when it comes to health, I am Michelle Bridges, just not as popular. I did my homework. Online research that is. So for the next few days I was Sherlock Holmes. My ‘following pregnancy’ detective skills did come in handy; I literally read almost all forums and inspected all reputable juicer Australia retailers. And here’s what I learned – if you want a juice that is loaded with goodness, a juicer that will not wake up your elderly next door neighbor and minimal prep time, masticating juicer is the way to go. And not just any masticating juicer but the Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer. It’s available in their online shop or you can get it from any reputable juicer Australia retailer.

Now, why do I love this juicer so much! It’s super quiet; it can juice hard fruits and veggies and soft ones as well. My favourite combo is kale, apple and ginger. Oh, what goodness, and it’s yummy too. And super healthy as well. But here’s the real deal – juiced veggies and fruits are digested 14 times faster than raw produce. What this means? In 15 minutes your body will be supplied with healthy nutrients. When eating raw fruits and vegetables, it takes your body 3 hours and more to digest. Simply said, if you eat a fruit salad 7 o’clock in the morning, nutrients will be distributed to your body after 10am. And if you have a juice, the nutrients will enter into the blood stream 15 minutes after you’ve consumed it. No wonder I was feeling tired by 11am before.

Another great thing about this juicer is minimal prep time. It features a large feeding tube which means no cutting. Convenient, isn’t it. I just throw in my veggies and fruits, turn it on and voila, in few seconds I have my nutrient-loaded breakfast in a glass. And the best part – easy clean-up; just pour water, turn the motor on and the juicer self cleans. Come on moms, don’t you just love the self-cleaning idea. Love it; wish my cooktop could self clean, but that isn’t happening any time soon.

I have to admit that it took me time to master this juicing thing. At first everything tasted…, how do I put this, well it tasted bad. I had to literally hold my nose to get some of the juices down. My first reaction to some green juices was somewhat similar to the facial expression of babies trying pureed green beans for the first time. Familiar with that disgust face? Well, that was me for the first week or so every morning. But then I experimented with different flavours and came up with few health boosters. Here’s my all time favourite.

juicing

Ingredients:

1 pear

1 apple

½ cup blueberries

1 tomato

1 beetroot

½ bunch parsley

2 Brussels sprouts

2 carrots

4-5 Kale Leaves

3 Broccoli florets

½ tablespoon fresh grated ginger

Add all ingredients to your juicer and you’ll have the energy to stack up building blocks with your little one all day long.

Trust me, you will love juicing, it’s good for you and super convenient. At least it is for me. Remember, this is not an advertisement. By no means do I want to trick you into spending 400-plus dollars. It is an honest advice and a real-life experience from a first-time mom just like you. If you enjoyed this and found it helpful, I’d love to read some of your experiences. I’m sure you have plenty to say!
